Surgeons at Baylor University Medical Center Friday completed a successful heart-lung "domino" transplant on a 43-year-old man with chronic emphysema and a 64-year-old man with a diseased heart.

Thomas K. Lee, of Garland, who received a new heart and lungs, and Burl C. Hamilton, of the Waxahachie area, who received a new heart, were reported in critical condition following the 13-hour dual operations that concluded at 6:15 a.m., hospital officials said. The heart and lungs of a gunshot victim who died in Baylor's emergency room were transplanted into the chest of Lee, and his healthy heart was then used in the so-called "domino" procedure to replace Hamilton's diseased heart.
