University of Utah gymnast Melissa Marlowe and rec-ord-setting archer Denise Parker, both members of the U.S. Olympic team, have been named sportspersons of the year by the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and will be honored during a dinner and reception Thursday in the Salt Lake Airport Hilton.

Fred S. Ball, chamber president and general manager, said the banquet is sponsored by TV Guide magazine. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m., the awards given at 7 p.m. and dinner served at 7:30 p.m.The award is given annually to the people who made significant contributions to Utah sports, Ball said, and these two individuals have compiled an impressive list of records and contributed to Utah sports in general.

Ball said their most recent accomplishments were Parker winning a bronze medal in the team archery competition and Marlowe helping the U.S. team take fourth place in gymnastics during the Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea, last summer.
