World-famous cartoon character Snoopy will be in Salt Lake City on Saturday for the 1989 Scout-O-Rama, sponsored by the Great Salt Lake Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Thousands of youths and their leaders will attend the event, which will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. Beagle Scout Snoopy, the Salt Lake Scots Bagpipe Band and the Kaelin Brothers will lead the parade.James R. Jones of Rocky Mountain Fabrication, is chairman, and Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah, honorary chairman.

Events will include a hot dog cook-off, with final competition at 2 p.m. outside the Salt Palace; a Charlie Brown look-a-like contest, with a free trip for two to Camp Snoopy and Knots Berry Farm (contest begins at 12:30 p.m. on the Assembly Hall stage); a pinewood derby; and nearly 800 Scouting booths.

Tickets are $3 and are available at the door or at the council, 582-3663. Tickets include coupons from sponsors, including Raging Waters, Supersonic Car Wash, Shopko, Minit-Lube, Hardees restaurants, Little Caesar's Pizza, Pepsi Cola, Lynn Wilson's Foods, Clover Club Foods and Tri-Miller Meats.
