The federal government has agreed to make $3 million available to rebuild highways washed out when the Quail Creek Dam broke near St. George earlier this year.
Gov. Norm Bangerter said Thursday the state will have to reimburse the federal government if it recovers any money through lawsuits."We think it's a good shot in the arm," Bangerter said of the funds. Earlier this week the governor accepted a report on the disaster from a commission studying the matter. He is optimistic the dam can be rebuilt at its original site.
"That would be the most economical place to build," Bangerter said. "We have to have water available in Washington County because of the growth there."
