Entertainers including Tammy Wynette, Pia Zadora and Ray Charles helped stir up pledges of more than $37 million to the National Easter Seal Society during its 18th annual telethon.

"We found that the American public was very supportive. We had an even stronger turnout than we expected," said John Garrison, head of the non-profit organization. This year's pledges exceeded the goal of $36 million and last year's mark of $35 million.The 20-hour telethon was broadcast live on local television stations over the weekend.
