Proposed modifications to the Olmstead Aqueduct in Provo Canyon will be discussed at a public meeting March 14 at Orem High School, 175 S. Fourth East at 7:30 p.m.
Changes in the alignment of the pipeline are planned in order to relocate a one-mile segment near Bridal Veil Falls. The Central Utah Water Conservancy District, which has operated the pipe since it was taken over from Utah Power & Light by the Bureau of Reclamation, is considering three options that would bypass a segment of the pipeline that traverses a slide area.
The first option would be to tunnel into the mountain behind the slide area. The second alternative would be to reroute the affected segment using a siphon across the Provo River. A third option would involve pumping water from the river to the aqueduct downstream of the problem area.
Anyone interested in providing input to the environmental review is encouraged to attend. Written comments can also be submitted to Sheldon Talbot, Chief Engineer, Central Utah Water Conservancy District, 355 W. 13th South, Orem, UT 84058.
Written comments will be received until April 1.
