A Weber County man facing the death penalty in the 1986 death of his wife in Clearfield was arraigned Tuesday in 2nd District Court on an additional charge of conspiracy to commit murder.

Thomas W. Randolph Jr., 34, of Roy, and his girlfriend, Wendy Z. Moore, 29, 221 Fairfield Road, Layton, both pleaded not guilty to the charge, a first-degree felony that carries a prison term of five years to life.Judge Douglas L Cornaby scheduled Randolph's trial for May 3, allowing his April 5 trial for murder in the November 1986 death of his wife, Rebecca, to conclude before the conspiracy trial opens.

Randolph is charged with capital homicide in the November 1986 death of his wife, found dead in their home in Clearfield with a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators initially ruled it a suicide, but further investigation led to murder charges being filed against Randolph last fall.
