The son of Utah Valley Community College President Kerry Romesburg was seriously injured Monday while vacationing in Mexico.

Rod Romesburg, 20, an Arizona State University sophomore, broke his neck while he was swimming at Mazatlan. UVCC spokesman Val Peterson said the college student was playing in the ocean when he was hit by a strong wave that wrenched his neck, breaking it.He was airlifted on an international flight to Salt Lake City and then transferred to the University of Utah Medical Center. Wednesday, he was listed in serious condition in the Neurocritical Intensive Care Unit with spinal cord injuries, said hospital spokesman John Dwan.
