An Idaho man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the car he was driving struck the rear of a truck that stopped abruptly after the driver was sprayed with glass from a broken side mirror.
Salt Lake police Lt. Tom Brown said the accident occurred about 4:26 p.m. on Seventh South near 39th West.Killed:
Gordon W. Conger, 63, Twin Falls.
A passenger, W.H. Kimball, 66, also of Twin Falls, was injured and was in good condition in LDS Hospital, suffering from minor head injuries.
Brown said a tow truck being driven by Delmus M. Hall, 48, Farmington, was westbound on Seventh South when an eastbound vehicle apparently struck the left-side mirror on Hall's truck. Glass from the shattered mirror flew an open window and struck Hall in the face and neck, prompting Hall to make an emergency stop.
The car driven by Conger then collided with the rear of Hall's truck.
Hall was treated for cuts to the neck caused by the glass and released.
Brown said the vehicle that struck the mirror did not stop. He said it is possible the driver was not aware he struck Hall's mirror.
