Dee Vance Benson, a Justice Department lawyer, takes the oath as interim U.S. attorney for Utah Tuesday afternoon in U.S. District Court. The White House is expected to send his nomination to the Senate soon for formal confirmation. Then a more elaborate swearing-in ceremony will be held. Speaking for himself and the other federal jurists in Utah, Chief Judge Bruce S. Jenkins said, "We want to congratulate you, we want to welcome you. All of us expect that you'll fulfill this office with distinction." Later, Benson joked that one of his first tasks will be to figure out how to work the combination on his office door.
