Davis District teachers who want to adopt children will now be allowed to take off up to 10 days of sick leave and 10 days of leave without pay to do so.

The board adopted the new policy at a meeting Tuesday night at Viewmont High School. The board bypassed its normal procedure of hearing about a policy at two consecutive meetings because a district employee wanted to use the provision before the board's next meeting, district Public Relations Director Bonnie Doyle said. The policy says, "Employees who are adopting children are entitled up to ten days of accumulated sick leave. If there is an additional need beyond these days, employees may request in writing to the superintendent a temporary leave without pay not to exceed ten school days."
