A man who admitted killing his son last July will serve no jail time.

Robert E. Eliason, 58, appeared for sentencing before 3rd District Judge Homer Wilkinson, who placed the defendant on nine months probation, fined him $3,125 and ordered him to pay for the victim's funeral and complete 300 hours of community service.On July 5, 1988, Eliason had been fighting with one of his sons at 611 W. First South and fired several shots with a .22-caliber handgun. One of the shots struck another son, Michael Eliason, 33, Mt. Pleasant, Sanpete County, in the chest, killing him.

Originally charged with felony manslaughter, Eliason pleaded guilty to negligent homicide, a misdemeanor.
