There may not be much competition for the designation of Idaho's centennial horse carousel.

After all, said sponsors of a resolution approved by a House committee Friday, there are only about 170 wooden horse carousels left in the country. And there are only six of the same type as the one now residing in Rexburg's Porter Park.

Patricia Burton, chairman of Rexburg's Restore the Carousel Committee, told the State Affairs Committee the 1926 carousel is being restored. It has 38 horses and two chariots.

The carousel at Rexburg was at Ogden, Utah, for many years before being moved to Rexburg in 1952, Burton said.
