U.S. Army investigators Monday questioned an electronic warfare signal specialist who disappeared from his unit and is suspected of having spent 11 days in East Germany.
Michael A. Peri, 21, from Laguna Niguel, Calif., returned to his base Saturday night after he was reported missing Feb. 21. His jeep was found one mile from the East German border."All we knew at this stage is questioning has started," an Army spokeswoman said. She said Peri had not spoken of his whereabouts before questioning began by the Army investigators.
Another spokesman for the 5th U.S. Army Corps in Frankfurt, Capt. Robert Jones, said earlier Monday that Peri was given the opportunity to find a lawyer.
