L.S. Brown, sometimes referred to as "Richfield's Tax Rebel," has been named chairman of the Sevier County American Party. The party elected Neldon Smith, Monroe, as secretary-treasurer.

Brown has refused through the years to file and pay federal income taxes on the grounds that they are illegal, and he served a term in a federal prison. He says Republicans and Democrats are not taking a stand on the side of the Constitution and that too many citizens are not sufficiently aware of the contents of "that inspired document."
