A Salt Lake man charged with shooting a Draper man during a domestic problem last October has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.

Elden Ellis, 31, faces a June 5 trial before 3rd District Judge Frank Noel.Ellis is accused in the death of Garry Peppmuller, who was shot in the chest the night of Oct. 22. Peppmuller's wife, Julie, had been living with Ellis in Salt Lake City.

The two went to the Peppmuller home in Draper and were approached by Peppmuller, who was under court order to stay away from the residence. Ellis told police that he was forced to shoot Peppmuller with a shotgun in self-defense.

Peppmuller, however, was unarmed, police said.
