Fifty-two illegal immigrants, many of them holding plane tickets, were arrested at a suspected "drop house" where they apparently were waiting out a crackdown on immigrant smuggling, authorities said.

The action Sunday night brought the number of undocumented aliens arrested over the weekend to 89. The Immigration and Naturalization Service has been concentrating its efforts for the past week on stopping the use of commercial airlines for smuggling illegal aliens to destinations nationwide.Officers discovered the immigrants after receiving an anonymous tip from a caller who alleged a diabetic woman was being kept at the house against her will, Lt. Roger Fox said.

The report turned out to be false, but police discovered the group of adult aliens, mostly from Brazil, and notified the INS, Fox said.
