Dixie College moved into the championship game of the Region 18 Tournament, thumping Utah Valley Community College 115-97 Friday.
The Rebels did most of the damage in the first half. They got out to a quick 9-2 lead, then extended it to as many as 23 points before settling for a 56-35 lead at the break.UVCC came out with a full-court press in the second half, and used several backcourt steals to get easy layups. They cut the lead to 78-70 with 11 minutes left, but that was as close as they could get.
Dixie's Boobie James blistered the nets from the outside, hitting five 3-pointers as he piled up 26 points. Todd Crow countered on the inside with a game-high 30 points. He was the beneficiary of several fast-break layups when Dixie broke through the UVCC press.
The Rebels also got a big game from Craig Rydalch, who contributed 24 points.
For UVCC, Brian Santiago led the way with 21 points, followed by Scott Moon with 20 and Peter Martin with 18.
With the win, Dixie improved to 28-5 on the year. UVCC dropped to an identical 28-5 record.
