The public will have an opportunity to purchase Hotel Utah memorabilia at silent and live auctions on March 11. Featured will be more than 115 groups of items that span more than 75 years of the Hotel Utah's history.
A sealed-bid silent public auction will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. in Little America's Arizona, Idaho and Wyoming rooms. Included in this auction will be furniture and other large items. Smaller things such as silver, towel sets, tablecloths, napkins, books, tins, etc., will be priced and sold on a per-item basis. Admission to the silent auction is free.The live auction is planned for Saturday evening as part of the first annual Governor's Awards in the Arts gala in the Little America grand ballroom. Items to be auctioned include selected pieces of furniture, such as antique sleigh beds, writing desks and groups of dining chairs; china place settings bearing the hotel's name; and silver pieces such as pitchers, platters and trays with the Hotel Utah imprint.
The auction will follow the 6:30 reception, 8 p.m. dinner and the announcement of the winners of the governor's awards. Proceeds from the auction will be applied to cost of creating a permanent home for the Utah Art Council's State Fine Art Collection.
