Quick thinking may have saved a Utah Highway Patrol trooper's life Friday when he was investigating accidents near the Utah State Prison.

According to the Utah County Sheriff's office, Sgt. Brent Shelby was southbound on Interstate 15 at 11 a.m. when a semitrailer truck jackknifed on the icy road and landed on the patrol car.The sergeant apparently saw the accident coming and ducked before the cab was crushed. He was extracted from the car by Lehi Ambulance and taken to American Fork Hospital where he was later released.
