Utah arts projects received $1.7 million in state legislative appropriations this year, ranking the state 18th in the United States in terms of per capita spending, according to the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies.

On a per capita basis, Utah is spending 91 cents per person in state money on the arts, a figure down 6 percent from 1987.Washington, D.C., ranked first in the nation, spending $5.66 per person on arts projects. The national average per capita figure was $1.01. Idaho ranked 55th among the states and territories, spending 19 cents per person.
