Keith Geiger, vice president of the National Education Association, was scheduled to speak at several locations in Utah during "Proud to Teach," sponsored in Davis School District by the Davis Education Association.
Geiger will be in Utah Tuesday (National Teachers Day) and Wednesday. He was scheduled to visit Davis schools and address the Davis Board of Education Tuesday.Geiger also was to visit local media outlets in Salt Lake City and appear on KSL Radio's Public Pulse program from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The DEA promotion is a culmination of a yearlong effort to encourage pride among Davis County's 2,200 teachers. Local PTA's have been involved to help plan programs honoring teachers during the week. At many schools, teachers arrived Monday morning to find their doors decorated and tokens of appreciation on their desks. These ranged from tote bags with the names of their students to scrapbooks outlining the year's activities.
Luncheons and other activities will continue through the week. The weeklong promotion will end May 7 in Farmington with a 5K fun run/walk and talk beginning at 10 a.m. at Farmington Junior High. Participants will receive "Proud to Teach" T-shirts.
During the school board meeting, there will be a special reception to recognize teachers with 25 years of service. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Farmington district offices.
