Jan Bucher of Salt Lake City took the gold medal in women's ballet at the 1989 World Freestyle Ski Championships here Wednesday afternoon.
Bucher, the reigning world champion, drew the last starting position. Switzerland's Conny Kissling skiied just before Bucher and scored 26.40, a score Bucher needed to better to win the title. Bucher finished with a 26.70 score to clinch the crown."After my first jump I knew I had it in me to take it (the title)," said the 31-year-old Bucher, who also won five World Cup events this season.
Bucher's achievement will be televised on ESPN on March 12 at 1 p.m. MST.
