Irene Fisher has been named recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the Salt Lake Branch of the American Association of University Women.
The award is given annually in celebration of Women's History Month and recognizes outstanding community service.Fisher will receive her award at the March 8 branch meeting at the Alta Club. A social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $15.

In addition to being honored, Fisher will be the speaker for the evening and will discuss the Salt Lake community in the year 2000.
She is director of the Lowell Bennion Center at the University of Utah, an organization that deals in volunteer work. She is a member of Utah Children, Child Support Task Force, the Salt Lake County Detention Center, Coalition for Utah's Future, Law and Justice Center and an ex-officio member of the Community Services Council
Fisher also is a past president of the League of Women Voters and the Equal Rights Coalition.
