Tracy Leonard, 3, a Payson, Utah, youngster who underwent heart transplant surgery Feb. 11, has been released from Loma Linda University Medical Center.
The youngster, who was born with his heart on the right side of his chest and without a spleen, is staying with his mother, Judy, in a home near the hospital and is doing well, his aunt, Kimberly Blanton, Payson, said Wednesday afternoon.Tracy was scheduled for release Sunday but was retaining water. The problem was corrected, and he was discharged Tuesday afternoon. Unless heart rejection or other problems develop, Tracy will only have to visit the hospital for checkups twice weekly for the next six months to a year, Blanton said.
Meanwhile, Tracy must be on medication that will cost about $1,000 a month.
Tracy's father, Chad, returned to Utah from California Sunday night to be with two other children, Aubree, 14 months, and Tyler, 4. Chad hopes to make trips to California every other weekend.
