Salt Lake County search and rescue teams called off a search at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday after combing the area near 40th West and 58th South for a missing 9-year-old boy.
D.J. Garcia was last seen about 6:30 p.m. riding a small white scooter in the area. Search teams were called out at 9:15 p.m. to look for the boy.Deputy Merv Quirin said Wednesday that the boy's parents are divorced and he lives with his mother, Melanie, at 3973 W. Blue Meadow Drive (5850 South). Officers believe believe the boy is either with his father, Alan, or in hiding on his own.
"We're trying to find his dad. He was possibly seen in the area last night," Quirin said. "We'll also begin checking with acquaintances."
The missing boy is 4 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 60 pounds. He has green eyes and light brown hair.
