The Consulting Engineers Council of Utah has given its Grand Conceptor Award to the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility, a joint venture of DMJM Inc., Salt Lake City, and Brown and Caldwell, Denver, Colo., and Pleasanton, Calif.

The prize goes to the Utah project that most effectively achieves the owner's needs, shows originality and uniqueness, addresses social and economic considerations and advances technical value to the engineering profession. The facility will compete nationally for additional awards.A regional wastewater treatment plant serving 50 percent of Salt Lake County residents, the facility has been fully operational since January 1988 and will be completed later this year.

It is the second largest locally-owned public works project in Utah's history and utilizes a new wastewater treatment process that makes it the largest operating plant of its kind in the world, officials said.
