The City Council will allow the city's power department to negotiate for extra power expected to be available soon from the Northwest.

The vote will allow the city's power department to negotiate with the Utah Association of Municipal Power Suppliers to purchase power that is expected be available from the Western Area Power Administration and Deseret Generation and Transmission.Cliff Michaelis, city power manager, said that the merger between Utah Power & Light and PacifiCorp will allow surplus power from the Northwest to go to Utah. Exact purchase price and amount of power would have to be given final approval by the City Council.
