Salt Lake County sheriff's detectives on Monday still had little idea who killed the man whose severed legs were discovered last week in a trash receptacle.

But evidence recovered from the man's automobile may shed more light on the mystery, said homicide squad Lt. Ben Forbes.South Salt Lake police early Sunday found the car owned by Larry Duane White, 52. The vehicle was on 3265 South near 10th West, Forbes said. The lieutenant refused to comment on what was in the car or whether there was any blood.

White is believed to be the person whose legs were found last Wednesday in the garbage bin behind Smith's Food King, 851 E. 45th South.

The legs are being forwarded to the FBI crime laboratory in Quantico, Va.

White, originally of Fort Wayne, Ind., had been living with his father in an Avenues apartment. The father reported his son missing on Tuesday. On Friday, he identified some clothing found with the legs as belonging to his son. The father also identified a scar on one of the legs.
