One referee who called the shots at a Thursday night basketball game learned that some of the worst fouls can come after the game.

Referee Jeff Collingsworth, 30, Orem, was refereeing at a girls basketball playoff at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stake center located at Seventh N. Main Street.Toward the end of the game, a call was made against the losing team that some in attendance felt was incorrect and caused the team to lose the game, according to Gerald Nielsen, Orem police spokesman.

After the game, an angry spectator and three members from the losing team followed Collingsworth and his wife to the church parking lot where the teens verbally abused the couple. Collingsworth suggested that they get the LDS bishop to take care of the problem.

While Collingsworth was looking for the bishop, the stake president came out to see what was wrong. Upon Collingsworth's return, the youth continued to mouth vulgarities.

Then, the youth pushed Collingsworth against a glass door, physically assaulted him and broke his nose. Collingsworth was taken to Orem Community Hospital where he was treated and released.

Police arrested the young man, took him to the Orem City jail where he was released on his own recognizance. Charges are pending.
