A teenage boy who heard noises in his house while he was alone was recovering Friday from a gunshot wound to his foot.

The 13-year-old boy was in his home on the 3800 block of Rivendell Road (5745 South) when he heard noises and grabbed his father's .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle. The gun was pointed at his foot when he accidently hit the trigger, a Salt Lake County sheriff's office report said. The teen's sister took him to a clinic, where the foot was washed but doctors decided not to remove the slug, which was in the soft sole of his foot, the report said. No charges were filed in connection with the Monday accident.
