A Vernal man was killed in an industrial accident at a Chevron Resources plant about 10 miles north of here, a deputy said.

It was the second fatality at the plant in the past two years. On April 12, 1987, a 32-year-old worker was electrocuted, authorities said.Uintah County Sheriff's Deputy Jim Lytle said Sam Young, 44, apparently was working on a large pipe that extended over a slurry tank when a brace holding the pipe gave way about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Young fell onto another pipe and was crushed between the two. Lytle said live electrical wires were at the site, making it difficult to reach the victim.

Finally, a mobile crane was brought to the scene to lift the pipe and the body was sent to the state medical examiner in Salt Lake City.
