Joseph Paul McCarthy, a former assistant attorney general and chief criminal county attorney, died Feb. 20, 1989, of pulmonary embolism. He was 64.
McCarthy was assistant attorney general from 1964 until he retired in 1987.McCarthy graduated from the University of Utah Law School in 1950 and worked in private practice as a partner with the law firm of McCarthy and Warr. He was a clerk with the Utah Supreme Court and attorney for the State Land Board for three years.
During World War II, he served in the 13th Armored Division.
Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East First South. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. and one half hour prior to the service.
