Firefighters peel the metal from around Carrie H. Williams, 24, 1601 Snow Queen, after she was trapped in her car when it was hit by a westbound van on 17th South near 16th West Friday about 10:30 a.m. Officers needed more than 15 minutes to cut the car's roof and two doors off before they could get the injured woman free of the wreck. Salt Lake police officer Brickley Jones said the woman started to make a U-turn from the curb in front of the apartment complex where she lives and pulled in front of a full-size van, driven by Manuel Gallegos, 74, 1640 S. Stewart St. Williams was listed in satisfactory condition Friday afternoon at LDS Hospital. Gal-legos was not injured. Jones said the accident is still under investigation.
