National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut James S. Voss, who qualified as a space shuttle mission specialist last summer, will speak during the Hercules Bacchus Works quality crusader banquet Feb. 24 in Little America.

At the dinner, 27 Bacchus works employees who were selected as top monthly contributors to the company's quality improvement program, will be honored. From this group, nine will become quality crusaders of the year, each receiving a trip for two to Hawaii.Ruth L. Novak, Bacchus Works vice president and general manager, said the nine crusaders will be the largest group to be honored since the program was started 25 years ago. She said the banquet also will commemorate another successful year in safety, quality and cost improvement with savings of $21.5 million in 1988.

Attending the banquet with the crusaders and their spouses will be Hercules Aerospace Co. officials and Navy, Lockheed and Martin Marietta representatives.

Voss is a former Army airborne infantry platoon leader and company commander. He was selected as an astronaut in 1987 and completed a year's training and evaluation in August 1988 to qualify as a mission specialist with a future space shuttle flight crew.
