The Charlotte Hornets released 34-year-old Rickey Green on Wednesday to make room for power forward Brian Rowsom.

Green, a point guard and the expansion Hornets' oldest player, started Charlotte's first game of the season, but his playing time had dwindled since then and he had not appeared any of the Hornets' last four games.Rowsom, a 6-foot-10 North Carolina-Wilmington product, won a Hornets roster spot as a free agent.

He broke his foot Nov. 16 and was placed on the injured reserve list.

Green, who had a one-year contract, will be paid for the rest of the season. He had been acquired from the Utah Jazz in the expansion draft.

Green said he will try to latch on to another NBA team.

"Actually I think it will be very positive for me," Green told The Charlotte Observer.

"I wasn't playing here. I was just rotting here. By the end of the season, I would have been out of the league.

"This way maybe I can get on a contender and extend my career another season."
