Jeffrey M. Nelson, a University of Utah senior, has been awarded the top national honor for Army ROTC cadets.
Nelson, 22, a 1985 Bountiful High graduate, received the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement for military and academic excellence. The prize is given to only four to six cadets each year nationwide.A senior majoring in premedicine with a 3.9 GPA, Nelson has been accepted for medical school by the Uniform Service University for Health Sciences, Bethesda, Md. He is a son of Jerry W. and Linda Nelson, 830 E. 23rd South, Bountiful.
Nelson is commander of the U. cadet battalion and former assistant team leader of the Ranger Challenge Team, an ROTC athletic team. He has been on a four-year Army ROTC scholarship at the U.
Last year, Nelson received the Reserve Officers' Association Award for academic achievement and was selected as Cadet of the Quarter for winter quarter.
Besides his U. of U. activities, he has a job at a small newspaper and is a volunteer tutor for high school students.
