Salt Lake police are continuing to investigate a downtown shooting incident Monday night that left two men seriously injured.
Both men were taken to LDS Hospital with gunshot wounds to the head. One man was shot twice in the neck, and the other was shot in the side of the face, said Lt. Steven Diamond. The men were identified as Thomas Redfoot and Ed Reed and were listed in serious condition Tuesday morning.
The shooting took place about 8:45 p.m. in an alley at approximately 255 S. Second West, behind Bandaloops Cafe. Witnesses described the alley as "transient heaven."
After they were shot, the two men walked half a block to the cafe where they called police. "He could hardly stand up," said Gregory Clapp, who helped one of the bloodied men make the call.
"He was pretty calm about the whole thing, though. It was like, `four sandwiches and an ambulance please,' " Clapp said.
A woman who was in an office next door to the cafe told the Deseret News she heard four or five shots, but initially thought it was a car backfiring. "It scared me enough that I went to shut the blinds. Then, from the alley, I saw this guy run around," said Rosa Graham. "He was really hauling."
Police said they had few suspects in the case and were unsure of a motive.
