WEST VALLEY CITY MAYOR PRO TEM CLAUDE L. JONES PROBABLY HOLDS THE DISTINCTION OF BEING THE ONLY ELECTED CITY OFFICIAL IN THE SPRING 1988 GRADUATING CLASS AT BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY.

JONES, WHO WAS ELECTED TO THE CITY COUNCIL IN 1981 AND WHO HAS SERVED AS MAYOR PRO TEM SINCE MAY 1987, RECEIVED A MASTER'S DEGREE IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION APRIL 22.

THE COUNCILMAN IS MANAGER OF UTAH TRANSIT AUTHORITY'S RISK DEPARTMENT. HE RECEIVED A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN MASS COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH IN 1980.

JONES AND HIS WIFE, MARILYN, ARE PARENTS OF FOUR CHILDREN.

JEFF TANNER, CHAIRMAN OF THE BYU COMMENCEMENT COMMITTEE, SAID HE IS NOT AWARE OF ANY OTHER ELECTED OFFICIAL IN THE GRADUATING CLASS.
