If your Deseret News was late Thursday afternoon, don't holler at your paper carrier.

A mishap in the printing process resulted in more than half the press run being quite late. The Newspaper Agency Corp., which prints and distributes the Deseret News, is in the middle of a major remodeling and renovation project that will result in new printing and distribution facilities.

But during the construction process, some glitches are bound to occur.

Thursday afternoon, while the presses were running, construction workers inadvertently turned off the cold water that feeds the presses, and hot water ruined all the printing plates. New plates had to quickly be made from page negatives and reinstalled on the presses.

The interruption resulted in most papers destined for the Salt Lake area being at least two hours late.
