The State Office of Education approved a proposal Friday to allow students who have dropped out of their high schools before graduating to go to local Job Corps centers to receive alternative vocational training.

Both Clearfield and Weber Basin Job Corps centers have agreed to accept the local high school students into their vocational programs.Coordination will be maintained with all 40 of the state's school districts to provide the Job Corps alternative for students.

The option will return some students to the job market with diplomas and work skills they might not otherwise obtain, said Don Christensen, chairman of the board's Administration and Finance Committee, which made the recommendation.
