A group of business students at Hillcrest High School is getting a jump on college. They are part of a pilot program in which they participate in college courses taught by high school teachers who have been authorized as adjunct faculty members by Salt Lake Community College.
The 22 students will complete three introductory college courses that are prerequisites for business, accounting, computer science or computer information systems degrees. All the course materials are identical to those used at the college. SLCC staff members monitor the high school program to be certain it meets the college's requirements.
Utah's Legislature and the State Office of Education are promoting more concurrent enrollment programs to speed high school seniors through their college courses.
