Sports was the topic of the Republican House and Senate leadership's weekly press conference. "Our vision and goal during the next decade should be to bring the Winter Olympics to Utah," Speaker of the House Nolan Karras, R-Roy, said in a statement.

He and Senate President Arnold Christensen, R-Sandy, praised legislation passed by both houses that would set aside 1/64th of state and local sales tax to an Olympic fund if Salt Lake City is chosen as the site for future Winter Games.
