Residents of Jerome will have a chance to decide whether liquor will be allowed to be sold by the drink on Sundays.

The City Council decided following a hearing to put the issue to the voters in November, reversing an earlier decision to resolve the issue itself.About 50 people crowded into council chambers Tuesday to comment on the issue, with about two-thirds speaking in favor of lifting the ban.

Two years ago regulation of Sunday liquor sales was left in the hands of local governments. Jerome County legalized the sales, but the city chose not to take action on the matter because public opinion seemed to be running counter to the idea.
