Property-tax relief for the poor and elderly is one step closer to reality.
The House Wednesday passed two "circuit breaker" measures, one targeted at low-income senior citizens and the other at all low income households.HB90 would provide $1.2 million in property tax relief to those age 65 and older whose household income is less than $12,000. HB4 would provide about $700,000 in property tax relief to low-income families without regard to their age.
Both bills passed overwhelmingly and now go to the Senate. The Senate also has approved two different "circuit breaker" bills.
