For a few minutes Tuesday, senators turned their attention to the hearts and flowers associated with Valentine's Day. Dressed in red, Senate staff members serenaded their bosses with a song to the tune of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart." The lyrics included the reminder that although, "I'm in love with your Senate bill, let me hear you whisper you'll not keep us late on the hill."

The message may have been lost on the lawmakers, however. With only days to go before the session adjourns on Feb. 22, both Senators and House members are struggling to get through the stacks of legislative bills still to be considered and complete a 1990 state budget.
