An Ogden man charged with aggravated robbery in the 1987 holdup of a Layton convenience store pleaded guilty Tuesday in 2nd District Court to a reduced charge of robbery.

Elmore Stewart, 39, was charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, in the Nov. 11, 1987, robbery of the Country Cuzzin's convenience store. The store clerk was hit in the head with a hammer during the incident, police said.Stewart admitted Tuesday in court he robbed the store, telling Judge Douglas L Cornaby the holdup netted him only $70. The judge set Stewart's sentencing for March 14.

Aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, carries a prison term of five years to life. Robbery, a second-degree felony, has a prison term of one to 15 years.
