Utah's l988 honey production was 1.5 million pounds, down 12 percent from 1987, according to the Utah Agricultural Statistics Service.

Last year's production came from 36,000 colonies with an average yield per colony of 41 pounds of honey.Stocks of honey on hand Dec. 15, 1988, totaled 384,000 pounds, 26 percent of the year's total production.

Utah's preliminary average price of 67 cents per pound is 13 cents above the 1987 price. The 1988 crop of honey is valued at $989,000, 8 percent above the previous year, the statistics service says.
