Research Industries Corp., the West Valley City-based medical products company, reported earnings of $196,253, or 4 cents per share, for the October-December period of 1988, a 27 percent increase over the same period a year before.

Company officials also announced that earnings for the six months ending Dec. 31 increased from $248,323 to $301,070, 6 cents per share. Earnings for the first half of the company's fiscal year were due primarily to rising health care sales, led by an 84 percent gain in the company cardiovascular catheters and nerve repair products.Proprietary pharmaceutical products generated an 8 percent increase, while private label sterile solution sales declined 34 percent. The private label decrease was caused by vendor delays and back orders, said Gary Crocker, president.

Crocker said the back orders will be shipped in the second half of the fiscal year.
