A man wielding a knife robbed a small West Jordan store Monday evening and fled with a "pretty good sum of money," police said.
West Jordan Officer Brad Sundquist said a man entered Foxy Beauty Supply, 1379 W. 90th South, about 6:15 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk. "He pulled out a knife, held it in two hands and started tapping it on the counter," he said. The robber's general description and some of his actions during the robbery caused police to initially wonder if he was the notorious "Top Gun" bandit who robbed 14 businesses in the same general area during late afternoon hours in November while wearing a baseball cap bearing the name of the popular movie.
Both Top Gun and Monday's bandit are described as heavy-set men in their late 40s or early 50s, 5 feet 10 inches tall with gray hair and blue eyes. However, composite drawings did not completely match those of Top Gun, Sundquist said.
"It doesn't appear to be Top Gun . . . but we're not ruling it out," he said.
